This degree serves as a foundation for advancing a career as a professional accountant.

    I recently earned a degree accredited by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA), which I pursued with the intention of becoming a chartered accountant.

    This decision followed careful consideration, as I realized during my previous studies that my true passion lay in accounting. Consequently, I made the strategic choice to transition from a degree in Financial Management to this specialized program in order to fully align with my long-term career aspirations.

    I am currently pursuing a postgraduate degree in Applied Accounting Science, accredited by SAICA, to prepare students for the Initial Competency Assessments.

Prospects

Where do I see myself in the future?

I am committed to qualifying as a Chartered Accountant. My goal is to complete my current qualification in 2025 and sit for SAICA’s IAC examinations in 2026, after which I will commence a training contract. In parallel with my qualification, I will continue to deepen my understanding of, and involvement in, technology that is transforming the world, as well as the business and accounting landscapes. Embracing IT and adapting to this ever-evolving environment is essential for remaining competitive, fostering innovation, and ensuring long-term success in an increasingly digital and interconnected global market.

I am not an expert in technology, nor do I claim to be; rather, I approach it as a personal hobby.

My interests include, but are not limited to, the following: hardware, programming, web development, cybersecurity and privacy, AI, and blockchain.

Before pursuing my education in accounting, I spent some time working at a popular retailer of computer parts, called Evetech. During my time there, I built and repaired computers, installed necessary software, and ensured they were functioning correctly. This experience taught me the value of hard work and the importance of going above and beyond to deliver exceptional service. Spending so much time around computers not only fascinated me, but also deepened my understanding of how they work, as well as how related technologies function and shape the world we live in. Computers and servers are the backbone of our technologically advancing society, and their progress is integral to our development as a whole.

After school, I became intrigued by Web 3, blockchain, and AI technologies. This curiosity prompted me to explore their capabilities and use cases. I believe the future is moving towards these technologies. This investigation led me to acquire skills in programming, particularly a broad range of Python-related tools and techniques, which extended beyond AI and blockchain to encompass web development. I then focused on refining my skills, expanding to include various web development tools, such as frontend, backend, and database technologies. I thoroughly enjoy spending my free time exploring these topics, as they are both deeply fascinating and satisfying.

A concept that recently caught my attention is the importance of maintaining privacy and security on the internet and in our use of technology. This prompted me to engage in self-study on topics such as privacy, cybersecurity, and methods for staying safe while using technology.
